DVD30 | UNIVERSAL DISC PLAYER - TECHNOLOGIE

The DVD30 is endowed with the very latest video and audio processing technology to deliver the best performance from any disc that you choose. Its universal capabilities will ensure ultimate convenience and ease of use.

Universal choice

The DVD30’s twin-wave laser pickup for CD and DVD allows you to play CD/SACD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3/ DVD-A/DVD-V/DVD-R/DVD+R and DVD-RW (DVD Video Format) discs for true multi-media compatibility.

Audiophile circuit design

Superior sound quality is assured through the use of triple, balanced, 192KHz/24bit DAC chips (a total of six individual DACs) allowing multi-channel DVD-A and SACD playback for surround sound music with useful bass management facilities. Primare’s characteristically refined analogue, fully balanced, circuitry will provide clear, undistorted sound to match the DVD30s superb video performance. Total Harmonic Distortion is a mere 0.004% at 1kHz whilst dynamic range, S/N ratio and channel separation meet the highest specification.

Built-in decoding of Dolby Digital and Dts surround sound formats means that the DVD30 can act as both player and surround processor in a high calibre home theatre system.

The player uses six, CS4392 audio DACs from Crystal Semiconductors together with a jitter suppressing circuit based around Burr-Brown’s excellent PLL1707. For the critical front L/R audio channels, we have chosen a truly balanced circuit all the way from the DACs to the balanced (XLR) outputs. To solve the problem of SACD’s different noise characteristics compared with other formats the main channels incorporate separate SACD filter topology. This filter is controlled by a small signal relay, which provides much better performance than transistors. The rest of the front amplifier stage uses the ultra-fast low distortion OPA2604 from Burr-Brown together with high quality capacitors from Vishay, and it is finished in a single-ended output stage consisting of a single MosFet transistor together with an active current source instead of the common use of passive resistors.

For the Surround, Centre, Sub -channels we use similar topology as the Front channels consisting of OPA2604 from Burr-Brown and excellent OS-CON capacitors from Sanyo.

Instead of muting the signal output with transistors, which can be found in many competitors’ players, we use MAX4680 C-Mos switches from Maxim, to shunt the signal to ground. These switches do not affect the audio signal in any way while they are inactive.

The player provides DTS 5.1 and Dolby D 5.1 decoding using Motorola’s excellent DSP (XCA56367). The player incorporates bass management and individual level controls for each channel just like an advanced surround processor.

For the video design we use Analogue Devices excellent ADV7300, which drives all interlaced outputs. The video buffering consists of the standard signal filtering together with the excellent Video operational amplifier AD8009 from Analogue Devices, which actually has a 1GHz bandwidth, making sure that no signal is lost between the video DACs and the outputs.Sanyo OS-con capacitors are extensively used in all the critical positions on the video circuits.

The progressive outputs are driven by Pioneer’s excellent video processor PM033 and its output buffers are placed as close as possible to the outputs.

All video connectors can be loaded simultaneously making the player ideal for multi-room installations.

Shortest signal paths

The DVD-30 has clean and short signal paths with the help of SMD technology.

Clean power supply for the best possible performance

The power supply incorporates a massive (300VA) toroidal transformer with five separate windings for the different power requirements (mechanic, motors, audio, video, digital, etc) in the player. These are individually regulated in twelve steps to ensure that enough power is constantly available. The power supply is placed as far away as possible from the delicate analogue and video circuits and incorporates a huge 21000uF capacitor bank.

Core voltages are tightly regulated for best noise suppression and separate ground planes are used for each of the player’s sections (video, digital, audio, etc).

Careful design for operational stability

As with all Primare units, the DVD30 is housed in an alloy heavy gauge steel chassis, which provides strength, rigidity, and screening, while being effective at damping vibrations from external sources.

Display, audio and video circuits are isolated

The front panel design isolates the display circuitry from the audio and video circuitry to avoid interference.

Flexible outputs

The DVD 30 provides a wide range of video and audio outputs to embrace numerous system-building options.

Video outputs

Video outputs include two Component Video outputs, S-Video, Composite Video and a 21-pin RGB compatible Scart.

Audio outputs

Digital coaxial, optical and professional AES/EBU outputs are augmented by a six-channel RCA analogue output, two-channel RCA and ultra-low noise balanced XLR outputs.

Multi-media inputs

To allow the DVD30 to perform in specialised automated multi-room applications, it is equipped with RS232 control capability, and offers data and IR inputs.

Digital Video output

The Player incorporates a backside slot-in that can be used for future upgrades, for example the optional DVI output.

The DVI-PCB replaces the existing output module on DVD-30. It incorporates one digital DVI-output and one analogue Component.

The heart of the DVI-module is the famous video signal processor PW1235 from Pixelworks, this chip is both a scaler and Video DAC. We use its digital outputs to feed the DVI transmitter from Silicon Image (SIL170), which incorporates HDCP support.

Easy navigation

The DVD30 is easy to use. All the parameters are adjusted using simple but comprehensive On Screen Display menus, which work in conjunction with a ‘set-up navigator’ that immediately guides the user through the basics during initial power-up, allowing a quick, easy and convenient way to optimise the DVD30 according to user taste and environment.
